Corn Meal Dinner Rolls


  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/3 cup corn meal
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tbls. yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 4 to 5 cups flour


  1. Cook together sugar, shortening, cornmeal, milk and salt. Cool; add eggs, yeast (dissolved in water) and flour to make a dough. Let rise until double. Shape into rolls with greased hands. Roll in corn meal and put in a greased pan. Let rise again, and then bake at 350° for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown. Yields 30 rolls.
